December 26, 2004
A day after the whole world commemorated the most celebrated season of Christmas, an ill- fated tragedy happened which is now listed as one of the 'deadliest disasters in modern history.' The tsunami in Indonesia took place in December 26, 2004 which was triggered by an earthquake with an original intensity of 9.0 as recorded in the Ritcher Scale. However, the magnitude was then reported to be 9.1 then 9.3 that lasted at either 500 or 600 seconds. In the account of the seismograph, the figure was regarded to be the second biggest tremor.
The tsunami in Indonesia begun in the Indian Ocean having an epicenter in the west of Sumatra which affected neighboring regions in Asia such as India, Myanmar, Thailand and Sri Lanka. An approximate number of 275, 000 individuals are dead and recently, a compiled analysis of lost persons totaled to 229, 866. Apart from that, there are still a lot of people who have not yet been listed either as dead or lost because their bodies are still missing up to this time.
July 17, 2006
As compared to the December 26 2004 tragedy, this tsunami in Indonesia is 'tamer.' According to the reports given by the state's Ministry of Health (MOH), 65 are missing while 668 have died. There were at least three foreigners whose names have been accounted in the death toll. They were tourists that were nationals of Sweden, Pakistan and Netherlands. Also, due to this catastrophe, about 9, 299 were in need of medical treatment.
The three- meter high tsunami in Indonesia also washed out many properties located along the coastlines. The 110- mile expanse of sandy shore was smashed by the fierce tidal waves that actually included areas that were not affected in the prior lethal mishap. It was said that the surf even reached more than an elevated height of six feet and swathed about two hundred yards disrupting commercial spots such as hotels and restaurants. Wrecked vehicles that were parked on the lanes were seen side by side with fixtures and furnitures as well as other kinds of debris.
As science has been explaining the incidents believed to be brought about by the environment, it only means that there are Mother Nature's complexities that the human mind cannot comprehend.
