What is Tuxedo?
I bet many of you are familiar with the term 'tuxedo'. You probably have heard that before, or you yourself have uttered that word to one of your cohorts. Well, what do you know about it? How do you understand the term? Do you know that tuxedo refers not only to a single thing? Well, yes. Tuxedo does not only refer to the dinner jacket you used to know. It can also mean a computer software, a Jackie Chan movie, a coat pattern which is often used in cats, or a place.
With that said, I will only focus much on tuxedo as an outfit. Thousands of people in the United States and the world are looking for it, after all.
Tuxedo is on the most basic considered as a type of semi-formal dress that is often used with a black tie. It is called in some areas in the world as a dinner jacket, although the jacket is just a part of the overall outfit.
Speaking of parts, it is worth noting that since the early days, there is actually no established rule or whatsoever governing the parts of a tuxedo. What is usually involved in the outfit are a white dress shirt, a black jacket often accented by lapels, black trousers, a black bow tie, black shoes and socks, and either a black waistcoat or a cummerbund. Black is typically the color for this outfit, but there are some instances though, usually in warm weather, when a white or cream coat is accepted.
Each part of the tuxedo has its own feature. For instance, the jacket comes in black. It has one or two or more buttons in front for closure, and unlike the other jackets, it has no tails. Also, it has lapels that are identified to be conventionally pointed. It is even faced with grosgrain or satin. On the other hand, the trousers used for a tuxedo outfit usually have a double stripe running down its side. This double stripe is designed to match the material accented on the facings of the lapel. Well, it is worth knowing that this trousers' feature is not just the only one that matches the lapels. Fact is, the waistcoat as well as the bow tie of this popular outfit is designed to do the matching.
The tuxedo is often made of wool, although there are some that are crafted with polyester or a combination of polyester and wool. Well, these types of tuxedo are what many people considered as 'excellent'. It is also typically for these types to cost around $100 for rent. Yes, tuxedos can be rented and it is so typical in the United States and even in Britain. But, there are also others that are really custom-fitted. So, whether you want a custom built or a rental tuxedo, you'll surely find a number of them with a number of clothing centers available out there.
