When searching for things online, your privacy is always a big question. How can you search for things and your IP address, user agent, location, unique identifier and your search queries not be collected by other people. Search engines can give out personal information that you do not want other people to have.
There is private search engines that you can use. There is not a search engine that fits all your needs. You really have to use which one would fit your needs and still protects your privacy. Startpage is the best search engine of the year but there are many more that you can use. A lot of private search engines are metasearch engines. These search engines will pull results from other search engines. However, a few search engines like Mojeek where it has its own index. Some search engines have their own index but pulls from other engines too.
Startpage is the top of the line private search engine. Startpage adds extra protection to google search results. Startpage was started in 1998 under a different name. Startpage does not log any information for third parties which is easy for it to do since it is based out of the Netherlands.
Searx is another search engine. Searx gathers your results from other search engines and provides extra protection so your privacy is protected. Searx is customizable which means you can pick which search engine it pulls information from. However, with Searx, Google has been blocking them from any of their results. Searx does offer public instances since it is an open source, and this could be an issue because this does not have the same protection as the main page. Also because it is open source there is not a place of jurisdiction.
MetaGer is another open source search engine. MetaGer was founded in Germany and created in 1996. It gives you the information about where the search is from, you have filter options and you can also open webpages anonymously by a click of a bottom. the only information that MetaGer gets is user agent and they do not use cookies or any toher tracking methods. MetaGer does keep some logs but only in Germany on servers and no longer then 96 hours when they are automatically erased.
Swisscows is a zero-tracking search engine out of Switzerland. They use their own servers instead of a cloud or something else. They do not store or record anything you use swisscows for. They pull your search results from Bing mainly. Swisscows does not use any violence or pornography websites. They promote moral values and digital media education.
Qwant is a private search engine out of France. Qwant also does not track any data. They primarily pull their information from Bing also. Qwant offer search filter which allows you to the dates along with categories.
DuckDuckGo is a private search engine formt eh United States. It was started in 2008 by Gabriel Weinberg. DuckDuckGo has a close partnership with Yahoo that helps filter through the results fromt eh 400+ sources. The results are mainly from Bing too. They do store what you search but does not store IP address and user agents. This private search engine runs on Amazon servers.
Mojeek is a crawler based search engine that gives you more privacy. This is the search engine you need if you want independence from Google and Bing because Mojeek has stored their own pages of data. The only logs that are keep is time of visit, page requested, referral data, and browser information. The only time a detailed log is kept is when it is any unethical or illegal practice done to minors then they record everything. Mojeek is based out of the United Kingdom.
YaCy is a decentralized, peer to peer, open source search engine. the peer to peer network is what makes YaCy unique. It was created by Michael Christen in 2004. YaCy has no central server so therefore it can not be taken or hacked by authorities.

As you can see, there are several types from ones that pull the results from other websites to ones that store their own results along with peer to peer results. In today world you can not be to careful with your personal private information and a lot of time the way your information gets out on the web is by your search engines and web browsers. There are so many search engines that protects your privacy and your information that you just have to look into which one will fit your needs the best.
