How To Make Money With Your Website
Create A Store
There are many options of how to make money with your website. The first option to come to mind is probably to create a store on your website. Your store can sell products you supply and ship or items customers buy through your site that you order off another website for less than you sold it for. The other company warehouses the items and ships them off to your buyer. This option is called dropshipping and is a popular business model online. Although you work as a middleman and still deal with customer service, you don’t deal with any inventory or production issues. You will have to deal with any issues the shipper creates, such as shipping the wrong item, shipping to the wrong address, the item arriving broken, or the item being out of stock for a while. It is still not an easy business model, but many website owners prefer dropshipping to maintaining their own inventory. If you don’t want to sell another company’s items, but don’t want to store your own inventory, you can also connect your website to a print-on-demand website. This means that you upload images to your chosen company, the program shows them on items in your store like t-shirts, mugs, wall art, stickers, mouse pads, and dozens of other items, depending on the program you decide to go with. Once a customer buys an item with your design on it, the company automatically prints and ships the item with no input from you. This store, once set up and marketed well, can produce passive income while the other two options are much less passive.
Monetize A Blog
A blog is a website where you keep adding new content, usually some sort of information website. Although some information websites aren’t blogs, the programs made for blogging are easy to customize and much easier to maintain than an informational website where you need to program every new page you put up. While blogs can be used to promote an offline business, sell services, get to be known in your career field, or share a passion, they can also be monetized to provide income. You need to have a consistent audience to make income and building that audience can take months or even years if you’re inconsistent. As well as providing relevant information in an interesting voice that helps your readers in some way, you will need to be sure the posts are keyworded correctly, the images are optimized for search engines, and you are promoting your posts on social media and relevant forums. Once you have an audience, you can add pay-per-click advertising, the most popular and easiest company is Google Adsense. You put an ad at the top of your page or between paragraphs and any time a reader clicks through to the advertiser’s website, you get a few cents. While not usually the highest source of income, it can be substantial if you have ten thousand readers or more and can provide a smaller income as you grow from dozens of readers to hundreds then thousands of readers. Another way bloggers monetize their website is by affiliate marketing. You find a product you would recommend normally, then you write a blog post recommending it, using special affiliate links, and every time a reader buys something after using your link, you get a percentage of the sale. The process doesn’t add any cost to your readers while you can get a few dollars a sale or more if you can promote expensive items. Sponsored posts are like affiliate marketing, but are when companies pay you to write a post, usually a review of their product or an experience. Unlike with affiliate marketing, you get paid by the post, not by how many people buy anything through your post. There are a lot of people who make a full-time income on affiliate marketing and sponsored posts, but the big money comes in once you start selling your own products, such as e-books or online courses. Finally, turning your blog into a consulting business or a membership site creates a consistent and high income but will take years of blogging and establishing yourself before you can become a consultant or have people pay to access your website.
If you do get a good income from your website, but decide you really do not enjoy working on it any more, you can always sell it. This is often called flipping a website, but basically people will buy established websites, freeing the original owners to do other projects.
