How To Protect Your Eyes From UV Rays
There are several tips that you can use for protecting your eyes from UV rays.
UVR
The first tip is to make sure that you understand the ultraviolet radiation. You need to know that there are three different ranges of the UVR. They include UV-C, UV-B and UV-A. Most of the time, the person is going to receive the damage to their eyes from the UV-B rays. In fact, there has been some research done to show that it has contributed to the development of cataracts and eye cancer.
Early
The second tip is to start off protecting your eyes from the sun as soon as possible. This means that you are going to get most of our exposure to the sun before we turn 18 years old. Plus the children are going to be able to transmit a lot more of the UVA rays to their retina than the adults are going to be able to do. This is going to increase the amount of exposure that they are going to get and put them more at risk of having eye damage later on in life.
Sunglasses
The third tip is to wear sunglasses whenever you are outdoors even if there is an overcast. You should look for the sunglasses that will transmit no more than the one percent of the UVB and the one percent of the UVA. This means that the lenses are going to be dark and big enough to cover the eye completely. This is the best way that you are going to be able to keep the sunlight from coming into the sides of the sunglasses. You are going to want the sunglasses that are going to be able to absorb the UV rays, so that you will be able to get the most protection for your eyes. Some of the other options for the sunglasses are going to include the lens material that can block the UV rays, the coatings, and the photochromic lenses.
Contacts
The fourth tip is to make sure that you wear added protection when you are wearing your contact lenses. Most of the time, if you wear contacts, then you are already going to be protecting your eyes from the sun. There are some contacts that are going to have UV protection on them, but the level of protection is going to depend on the contacts. The class one UV blockers is what is going to give you the best protection for your eyes from the ultraviolet rays of the sun.
Hats
The fifth tip is to wear a hat when you are going to be outdoors for a long period of time. The hat is going to need to be wide brimmed. This is so that it is going to provide the best shade for your eyes from the sun.
It is important to remember that using these tips are not going to cost you a lot of money and you are still going to be able to see clearly.
